Ungasan, Badung, 22 September 2018 - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. H. Joko Widodo symbolically inaugurated the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Statue. This inauguration was marked by pressing sirens and signing an inscription witnessed by the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno, the Minister of Tourism of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Arief Yahya, M.Sc., Governor of Bali Province, Dr. Ir. I Wayan Koster, M.M., President Commissioner of PT Garuda Adhimatra Indonesia, Maj. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Sang Nyoman Suwisma, and President Commissioner of PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk Harjanto Tirtohadiguno and invited guests at Ungasan Hill, Badung, Bali, today.
The inauguration of the GWK statue is the top event marking the completion of the GWK construction. The event, which was organized by GWK Cultural Park, a subsidiary of PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk (Alam Sutera), took the theme "Knitting Indonesia Esa" by presenting 300 dancers who performed regional dances from Sabang to Merauke by Prof. Dr. I Made Bandem, a dancer, artist, writer and teacher from Bali who is also known as “Joe Papp from Bali”. Also featured was Bumi Gamelan Orchestra led by I Wayan Balawan, a Balinese guitar and ethnic music maestro. The excitement and splendor of the inauguration ceremony were even more lively with the appearance of Putri Ayu, Duta Cinta, laser and fireworks shows and video mapping of "Kemilau Indonesia" at night.
"I hope that the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue can be enjoyed by all levels of society and become one of the art icons of the pride of the Indonesian nation which has a positive impact in all aspects of the life of the nation and state, and also contributes to improving the socio-economy of the Balinese people in particular," said Maj. Gen. (ret) Sang Nyoman Suwisma.
The excitement and splendor of the peak event of the inauguration of the GWK Statue is a sign of the readiness of the GWK Cultural Park area which is projected by Alam Sutera to become a venue for international multi-events, one of which is the gala dinner for the Annual Meetings of The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and The World Bank Group in October. 2018.
Alam Sutera Group is fully committed to continuing the construction of the GWK statue until completion. This commitment is dedicated to realizing the ideas of Mr. Joop Ave 28 years ago and all Indonesian people who have been waiting for so long. Various improvements and a series of technical and non-technical processes have been carried out by the Alam Sutera Group in collaboration with various parties to complete the construction of the GWK statue as well as possible and develop the GWK Cultural Park area as the best cultural tourism area in Indonesia.

Alam Sutera will develop GWK Cultural Park, a cultural park area that stands on a total area of 60 hectares, apart from being a tourist destination with its GWK Statue, as well as a forum for cultural expression through various performances, both held indoors and outdoors. GWK Cultural Park is designed comprehensively and is planned to be equipped with various tourism facilities, cultural center, garden, meeting hall, restaurant, hotel and parking area that can be accessed by many people at any time.
The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, which is a national cultural icon, has been completed. This statue is the largest statue in the world and the third tallest in the world to date. The entire GWK Statue rises with a total height of 121 meters, standing on a pedestal building as high as 46 meters. With a wingspan of 64 meters, this iconic landmark in Bali stands proudly on the top of the Ungasan hill, inside the GWK Cultural Park area. In the future, apart from being able to be visited for tourism and education purposes, the statue pedestal building can also be used as a venue for various events.
